TEDx Talk : “What Digitalization can do for you”

In March 2023, I was invited to deliver a TEDx Talk hosted at the hypermodern Groninger Forum in the Netherlands.

TED represents the convergence of 3 industries: Technology – Entertainment – Design devoted to “ideas worth spreading”. I have watched and been inspired by hundreds of TED Talks in the last years. TED talks for me are more than just a platform for sharing ideas. They are a source of motivation and enlightenment.

So obviously I said “YES” to this wonderful opportunity to deliver one of my own talks, with the hope to contribute to this tradition of inspiring people.

The topic that I chose to speak on was “digitalization”. I explored the idea of how digitalization can provide a level-playing field, break barriers and create opportunities for all.

34% of the world’s population has no access to the internet.

Thats nearly 3 billion people. Digital access is a privilege, and my mission is to help people recognize the power of digitalization.

As a tech enthusiast and leader, I further believe that we all have the power to shape the future and make a difference in the world, and digitalization is one of the most potent tools at our disposal. During the talk, I shared my personal story and digital journey with the hope to motivate others to leverage digitalization for positive change, especially as we move into a new chapter of the post-pandemic world.

The journey is always more satisfying than the destination!! Multiple hours of working on this talk, packing in my personal story, learnings and experiences with digitalization in less than 18 minutes was not an easy task. Even so when it has to be delivered on stage to a 100+ live audience without speaking notes.

So I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in this journey, to craft, write and re-write my speech, to learn stage presence, to refine my storytelling skills, and to share my ideas with such a diverse audience.

Big THANKS to EBF Groningen for the invitation and to all the people who helped me prepare for this event and gave me lots of feedback, words of encouragement and motivation 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

3 things I take away from this experience with public speaking on the TEDx stage:

  1. Speak to 100 people as if you were speaking to 5 people
  2. Pick out 3-5 friendly faces in the audience and try to make eye-contact with them during the speech
  3. Pause, pause, pause

Watch my TEDx Talk and let me know your thoughts 🙂
